DAY 1: ARRIVAL CHITOSE TO ASAHIKAWA & SOUNKYO ONSEN

  • Meeting with your local guide in Chitose. The first approach to Hokkaido’s endemic fauna is the magnificent and hilarious “Penguin Parade” in Ashiyama.
  • In the afternoon visit the Sake Otokoyama Distillery to discover the ancient production technique  and the Sounkyo Gorge. Follow the path that runs along the waterfalls to spot deer and white-tailed eagles.

DAY 2: HIGASHIKAWA, BIEI & FURANO

  • A pleasant bike ride along the Higashikawa rice paddies with the Daisetsuzan mountain range in the background and the flowery fields Shikisai-no–Oka, where you can do some optional farming.
  • Then the deep blue Biei Lake and Shirahigen Waterfalls followed by a scenic road in Dasetszan National Park, populated by the red foxes of Hokkaido. We will walk along the lava hardened by past eruptions for a thermal bath at Fukiage Onsen.
  • Overnight in Furano.

DAY 3: SAHORO, SHIKAOI & FURANO

  • Visit the Sahoro Bear Mountain Safari, home to the brown bears of Hokkaido “Hiruma” in their natural habitat. Rest of the day dedicated to tasting local specialties in dairies and farmhouses. We end with Ningle Terrace, a craft village nestled in the forest, built with interlocking logs.
  • Overnight in Furano.

DAY 4: SAPPORO & JOZANKEI ONSEN

  • Departure for Sapporo.
  • In the morning Ninja Training with a qualified instructor to learn the basic commands. In the afternoon visit the Ainu Cultural Center in Sapporo to discover the history and culture of the indigenous Hokkaido tribe.
  • Following Jozankei and Hoheikyo Dam, the perfect location for the autumn foliage with onsen at Hoheikyo Onsen, one of the largest outdoor baths in Hokkaido.
  • Overnight in “yurt” under the starry sky of Hokkaido.

DAY 5: OTARU, YOICHI & NISEKO

  • Visit Otaru, a pretty port town famous for its iconic sea canal and rich craftsmanship.
  • We recommend for lunch, the Sankaku Fish Market, specialized in seafood. Afterward, we will visit wine organic farms and distilleries: in particular Nikka Whiskey, with a taste of the most famous whiskey in Hokkaido. Through a scenic road through the mountains, we reach the village of Niseko.
  • Overnight in Niseko.

DAY 6: KYOGOKU, LAKE ONUMA & HAKODATE

  • In the morning, we will walk among the various little islands around Onuma Lake. In the afternoon departure for Hakodate with a visit to the Konbukan Factory specialized in Konbu, famous seaweed used to prepare most Japanese dishes.
  • In the evening, breathtaking view from the top of Hakodate, most famous observatory point.
  • Overnight in a ryokan with 50 minutes of private onsen included.

DAY 7: HAKODATE & YAKUMO

  • Morning market in Hakodate Asaichi with a short stop at Tachimachi Promontory, great for photos! Following, the historic Motomachi district.
  • After lunch, visit the Goryokaku Fort, built in Japan to repel the Russian invasion.
  • Overnight in ryokan in Yakumo with private onsen in the forest.

DAY 8: LAKE TOYA & NOBORIBETSU ONSEN

  • Visit the Hill Farm, on Lake Toya, to learn the secrets of Hokkaido’s tasty ice cream; then we reach the top of Mount Usu to walk on Hokkaido’s most active volcano.
  • In the afternoon, the Noboribetsu Hell Valley, an active geothermal reserve with rivers, waterfalls, and the great thermal lake Oyunuma.
  • The tour ends with a transfer to the town of Sapporo.
  • Continue to another destination in Japan or board your homeward-bound flight.
